Weather Underground Compatible Weather Station: A Review

When it comes to monitoring the weather, having a reliable and accurate weather station is essential. As someone who has used various weather stations, I have come across the concept of Weather Underground (WU) compatible weather stations. In this article, I will share my experience with using such a station and provide some insights on what to expect.

My Experience with Ambient Weather WS1401IP

I recently installed the Ambient Weather WS1401IP weather station, which is compatible with WU. At first glance, the build quality seemed decent for its price tag of $150 US. However, after using it for a month, I noticed some issues with its durability. The plastic casing had started to discolor and develop cracks, which was quite disappointing.

Despite these minor flaws, the station performed reasonably well in terms of accuracy and data collection. It took me about 30 minutes to set up the system, and the Observer module did an excellent job of gathering data from the various sensors. I was particularly impressed with how easily it integrated with WU, allowing me to access my weather data online.

Comparison with Ambient Weather WS1400IP

I have also used an Ambient Weather WS1400IP in the past, which died just shy of two years after installation. Although it was a decent unit, its build quality was not exceptional for its price range. In comparison, the WS1401IP seemed to fare better in terms of durability, but I still had issues with the plastic casing.

What I Wish I Could Change

There are a few things I would like to see improved in this weather station. Firstly, it would be great if the wind sensors were separate and could be placed at different heights for better accuracy. Secondly, an API connection would allow me to access the data directly without coding or using third-party software.

In conclusion, while the Ambient Weather WS1401IP is a decent WU compatible weather station, it has some room for improvement in terms of build quality and durability. For its price range, I expect a higher level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Despite these minor issues, I think it's still a great option for those looking for an affordable and accurate weather monitoring solution.
